Umeå Academy of Fine Art

Umeå Academy of Fine Arts was founded in 1987. Back then education took place in the former Scharinska Wood Mill. Today the academy has its new home in the heart of Umeå Arts Campus.

The Academy of Fine Arts has around 300 applicants each year out of which 15–20 people are accepted. Here artists are educated to qualify to work nationally as well as internationally.

At the moment there are 70 students at the Academy of Fine Arts. Focus is on individual artistic expression, on art's critical potential and on a wide variety of philosophies, cultures and expressions.

Collaborations across countries and cultural borders are an obvious part of the programme and the academy has several internationally active artists as guest teachers.
